Macedonia is a country whose monasteries and churches hold
most outstanding works of the mediaeval masters of fresco and icon-paintings.
It is only natural that Macedonia has some of the most outstanding gifted
painters, sculptures and graphic artists.
The work of the founders of modern Macedonian visual
art such as Lazar Licenoski, Nikola Martinoski and Dimitar Pandilov in
painting, and Dimo Todorovski in sculpture has been successfully continued
by Borka Lazwski, Dimitar Kondovski, Petar Mazev, Vasko Taskovski, Vangel
Naumovski, Gligor Cemerski and many others painters, the graphic artists
Risto Kalcevski, Simon Semov, Dimitar Malidanov and Dimce Nikolov, as well
as the sculptors Petar Hadzi Boskov, Boro Mitrikeski and Tome Serafimovski
Most of these Macedonian artists have had one-man and
group exhibitions in many world cities such as London, New York, Paris,
Rome, Stockholm and Dresden.
Artists from all parts of the world are welcomed to Macedonia.
Some of the most famous artists take part in the International Painters'
Colony in Strumica and Star Dojran, and many others participate in the
International Sculptors' Colony in Prilep, the Ceramics Colony in Resen,
or in the Graphic Artists' Colony in Gevgelija. Skopje is also the host
of the World Cartoon Gallery which is the only event of this kind in the
world.
The best collections of paintings, drawings graphics
and sculptures by Macedonian and world artists are exhibited in the Museum
of Contemporary Art and the Daut Pasha Baths in Skopje. There are also
