Dame
Gruev was born in the village of Smilevo near Demir Hisar in 1871. He was
educated in Bitola, Solun, Belgrade and Sophia. When he returned to Macedonia,
he dedicated himself to the revolutionary work, and together with Goce
Delcev, they were both teacher's in Stip. In this town they both worked
actively, and organised courier services and secret channels for supplying
of materials and ammunition for the Uprising, which they prepared.
From 1900 to 1903, he was imprisoned and after his return
from prison, he was chosen as a member of the main Uprising headquarters
for the Bitola region.
He was killed in battle with the Turkish pursuers in
the village of Rusinovo, near Malesevo in 1905.
