Resen is found at 880m above sea level.
This is a fruit centre, known for the good apples from Prespa. However,
Prespa is known as a tourist centre with summer resorts located on the
shore of lake Prespa, at Pretor, Otesevo, and Carina. Mt. Pelister and
Galicnic are rising close to Resen. These mountains have suitable slopes
for winter sports and summer recreation, and both are very rich in different
game.
During market days (Saturdays) tourists can buy handy
crafts, as this small town is particularly well known for its pottery.
When passing through Resen, on every road one should
see the building of the Town Municipality namely the former residence of
the Beg (bey), constructed during the period of Turkish rule. This building
is particularly interesting because it is an exact copy of the building
of the Paris commune, built of marble and stone. The same bey ordered an
urban plan of Resen to be made, known as the first urban solution in this
region of the Balkans.
Macedonia has its own "California", with the Prespa region
around Resen town. A road from Ohrid leads via Prespa to a plateau that
joins the waters of lake Prespa. Once this district was poor and unknown,
but now with fruit cultivation, it has grown into the most important and
well-known region of "Golden Delicious Apple", "Jonattan", "Lepocvetka"
and other good-quality apples.
