RAJKO ZINZIFOV (1839-1877) is another outstanding Macedonian
man of letters from the time of the Revival. He is known for his epic "The
Bloody Shirt", which presents a moving picture of the life of Macedonians,
and the epic "The Fiddle Player at the Gathering of the People".
Rajko Zinzifov is also known for his work as a journalist in Russia, where
he strove to spread the truth about Macedonia and its liberation. This
work places him among the greatest Macedonian journalists.
Not only were the belles-letters of the Revival writers
important from the artistic and aesthetic standpoints, but this writing
also proved to be very important and functional in giving definite shape
to the Macedonian written language and in stressing the need for it to
become a literary language.
