In the second half of the XIV century, the Turkish started
to invade the Balkan Peninsula. Uglesa and Volkasin sensed
the danger and quickly teamed against the intruders. The Christian and
Muslim armies met in 1371 near Cernomen, beside the river Marica where
a fierce battle was fought resulting in Uglesa and Volkasin being killed.
Macedonian suffered greatly, and dark centuries came to Serbia after the
Kosovo battle which occurred in 1389. The Serbian King Lazar was killed
in the Kosovo battle, but the Turkish sultan Murat I was also killed by
Milos Obilik.

The Turkish started to settle in greater numbers on Macedonian
territory, near rivers and good soil (Solun, Prilep, Ser, Stip, Veles,
Bitola ). Soon, the Turkish started building mosques, and there was terror
in some Macedonian parts where the Macedonians were forced to accept the
Muslim religion.
