DIMITRIJA MILADINOV
was born in 1810, in the city of Struga which is found on the shores of
Lake Ohrid. He studied to be a teacher, and when he became one, he was
very popular between the students, and a lot of people respected him.
He began the struggle to introduce the Macedonian language
in the schools, and in same time a struggle for the Macedonian Church.
However, his biggest credit was when he began to write Macedonian folk
songs, which he wanted to publish in the great book called "Zbornik" (collection,
anthology). He received help from his brother Konstantin who was at the
same time his student, and there was also help from Rajko Zinzifov. Meanwhile,
Dimitrija did not live to see the collection to be printed, because the
Greek priests defamed him to the Turkish authority and the Turks throw
him behind bars.
After a while behind bars he became sick and in 1862
he died.
KONSTANTIN MILADINOV
was the youngest son in the family of the potter Hristo Miladinov and child
number six in the family. He was born in 1830 same as his brother in Struga.
He studied in a few different places throughout his life but the very first
teacher was his older brother Dimitrija. The other places were Janino,
Athens in Greece, and then at Moskow in Russia. In Moscow
he started writing poems in Macedonian, and his well known poem is "T'ga
za Jug" (Longing for the South).
On the way back from Russia, he had a chance in Croatia
in 1861 to print the "Zbornik" which is a collection and anthology of the
Macedonian folk songs that he wrote with his brother Dimitrija and Rajko
Zinzifov. Very glad that he printed the book, he hurried to arrive in his
homeland Macedonia and to surprise his brother with what he had achieved.
But while he was on the way back he received the bad news that his brother
was in jail.
With the thought of helping his brother he went to Turkey,
but there the Turks put him in the same jail where his brother was. Very
soon both of them became ill and in matter of few days died.
