FIRST MACEDONIAN WARThe First Macedonian-Roman war occurred in 214 BC and ended in 205 BC. This occurred in the context of the Second Punic War, when Hannibal of Cartheage and Philip V of Macedon made an alliance against Rome. This war ended in 205 BC with terms favourable to Macedonia.
SECOND MACEDONIAN WARThe Second Macedonian-Roman War began in 200 BC and ended in 196 BC. This war was unpopular with Rome since it followed soon after the exhausting conflict with Carthage, but the Romans were prepared for war. They made an alliance with the enemies of Macedonia, and this whole anti-Macedonia coalition was united in war to defeat King Philip V. The war was launched by the Roman's against Philip, since he refused to guarantee to make no hostile moves against the states of Greece, and Philip V was defeated. He lost all his territories outside of Macedonia. But the biggest lost to Philip was that Macedonia had to recognise the autonomy of Greece. The Greek's were so badly treated and controlled by the Romans, they started to beg their stone gods to bring back the Macedonian ruling.
THIRD MACEDONIAN WARThe Third Macedonian-Roman war began in 171 BC and ended in 168 BC. This was the most catastrophic war for Macedonia. The successor of Philip V was his son Persey (Persej), who was the last Macedonian king to be beaten by the Roman's. In the big battle near Pidna in 168 BC, Persey lost the battle, he and his family were sent to Rome. Macedonia was terrorised and divided into four formally autonomous republics, and had to pay annual tributes to Rome.
FOURTH MACEDONIAN WARThe Fourth Macedonian War occurred between 149 BC and 148 BC. The Roman praetor Metellus Macedonicus ended a Macedonian rebellion under the rural pretender Andriscus, and Macedonia was then made a Roman province.
