The
followers of Kiril and Metodij in Macedonia are their closest collaborators
Kliment and Naum.
Kliment Ohridski (835-916) was a great Macedonian educator, translator, and the first writer in the history of Macedonian
literature. He was an extremely intelligent follower of the great accomplishments
of the two brothers from Solun, Kiril and Metodij, who led the people
to the path of culture and progress. Kliment Ohridskis' work played a significant
role in the development of the Macedonian culture and literacy. Especially
important was the University of Ohrid, which he founded it had an enrolment
of 3500 students. He wrote a book about Kiril, and is considered to be
the creator of the "Kirilica", which today has been made contemporary,
for the official alphabet of many people.
The oldest and well kept Kiril's monument has been found
in Macedonia, that is on the tomb stone.
In the year of 893 when Kliment was sent on his mission
to Moravia, and from his place as a replacement in Kutmicevica came Naum,
who was a close friend and a fellow traveller of Kliment from the early
days of his life. He continued the work of his biggest predecessor, he
educated the nation, and became very popular with the people. After seven
years of teaching, Naum retreats to a monastery. In the year of 910, Naum
Ohridski built his own monastery, today's "Sveti Naum" (St. Naum), in which
he was buried after his death in the year of 910.
