Old Natural Tap Old tradition of the Macedonian nation is for famous people or in honour and memory of some historical events to build taps. Water is given like a big gift to nature, like a symbol for immortality, because they continually flow and give refreshment to life. Is there a better gift and bigger honour? In Macedonia there are many natural taps and springs. For some, legends and tales were told, for the death of young girls, heroes, historical personage and travellers....
When any natural taps are mentioned we talk with respect and proud. Not because they are monuments which touched our time but they have different fates and trully represent tap monuments in Macedonia. Beside the taps you can usually find many people sitting or standing, having conversations, give looks to each other, or simply they just refresh themselves. The water continually falls, it fills the water jugs of the people and the springs where a person can see their own face and a piece of the southern sky above them, or a cloud passing far away above Macedonia on its own road.... During the time of the Otoman empire, only Skopje had 110 taps, from where all people got their supplier of water.
In this legacy we will mention about the railwayman's tap. The Tasino tap stands like a remembrance tap till today, in the park near NIP "Nova Makedonija". On the face of the stone which holds the tap, it is written: "On the same spot was the location of a railway station called Gorno Skopje (Upper Skopje), known as "Mala Stanica" (Small Station). The traintrack from Skopje to Ohrid, with the leg Podnolje - Struga - Tasmaruniste. It was built in the period of the First World War. It was finished on the 5th August 1922, when the last part of the traintrack Gostivar - Kicevo - Ohrid was opened. The track was closed on the 15th May 1966".
The water from the taps is crystal clear, the neighbourhood is very friendly and according to the place where this tap is build, it can be like an example of Macedonia.
