ANTE POPOVSKI

ANTE POPOVSKI was born in Lazaropole (Western Macedonia) in 1931 and is a representative of the middle-aged generation of Macedonian poets. His poetry is concerned with old Macedonia and its people. In Popovski's poetry one can find a contemporary feeling for his fatherland, his people, the world, and also for Biblical motif's, which he renders in an archaic language, but with modern feeling. He has written several books of poems, that have been translated into Serbo-Croatian, Italian and other languages. They are " Reflections " (1953), " The Vardar " (1958), " Samuel " (1963), " Unsubmissivness " (1963), " Triptihon " (1967), " Poppies " (1969), " Stones " (1972), and " Secret Letter " (1975).
