ACO SOPOV was born in
Stip in 1923. He is a member of the Macedonian Academy of Arts and Sciences,
and is one of the leading representatives of contemporary Macedonian literature.
The poet began his work during the time of the War of National Liberation
(World War II); it therefore represents a unique poetic chronicle of that
time. His first book was published in Belgrade in 1944 under the title
"Songs". Subsequent books have been "Railway of Youth" (1946), with Slavko
Janevski, "On Gramos" (1950), "With Our Hands" (1950), "Verses about Trouble
and Joy" (1952), "Margen with Silance" (1955), "The Wind Brings Good Weather"
(1957), "Songs" (1963), "The Birth of the Word" (1966), Yus-Universe (1968),
and "Raider in the Ashes".
